Project: Simon-Casati Residence Bathroom 
Artist: Robert Jones
 Challenge: The client wanted to integrate a local artist woodworking with
Robert’s beautiful glass sink design.
Solution: Mary Simon-Casati selected
from several woodworkers in her hometown who are fabulous
craftsmen. She especially liked the work of Peter Wright. Mary
wanted something whimsical and organic and sculptural, and her
husband Ryc, wanted something simple and organic and sculptural,
they both like a very eclectic look. And of course, it had to
compliment the sink and not overtake it.
Peter’s background is in architecture and makes a lot of furniture that
uses stone, wood and organic looking work. The top of the base
Peter used a slab of walnut with the bark still on the backside.
The walnut tree trunk on the bottom shows the artist’s chisel
marks. On the lovely, very refined base is a slab of mahogany and
there is a mitered corner that goes onto the wall.
The owner’s installed his or her own tile, which took 3 days of cutting! All
in all, everything our clients designed and installed, centered on
the Hydrangea Petals Blown Glass Sink by Robert Jones.

 About the Artist: Robert Jones, originally from Buffalo, NY, is a third-generation
glass blower. Moving to Seattle in 1981, he became immersed in the
growing glass-art industry here.
He has been trained at the Pilchuck Glass School and Pratt Fine Arts Center,
as well as serving as an apprentice at The Glass Eye and working
with local artists, including Dale Chihuly and Lino Tagliapietra,
among others.
Robert comes from a background in the traditional trades, infusing
his art with the functional sensibilities and precision of a
craftsman. In his 20 years as a glass artist, Robert has moved
from creating eclectic and original objects of art to his current
passion and vocation, creating architectural products using the
materials and techniques of glass blowing.
Always the entrepreneur and innovator, he is constantly striving to find new
ways to bring art glass into the world of modern design.
Both of Robert’s brother’s Ron and Larry are also apart of Glass Artists
Gallery providing fusing and slumping in the architectural glass
and furniture sections of our galleries.
