Glass Artists Gallery Featured Projects
Client: Christ Lutheran Church, Long Beach, California
Project: Baptismal Font
Artist: Mark Ditzler
Christ Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California came to us in November requesting
a new baptismal bowl for their sanctuary. They wanted the bowl to
sit on a flat table, which was being made to the dimensions of the
bowl.
We presented a solution of creating a fused and slumped bowl by Mark Ditzler that
is 26” diameter x 6” deep in clear “champaign” glass. Champaign
glass has a frosted texture with tiny bubbles throughout. This
gives an incredible look and feel to the glass.
The church recently had a special dedication service for the new Baptismal
Bowl and our client Marilyn Chelsvig wrote the following of her
experience with Functional Art Gallery:
“I stand in awe at the sight of the new baptismal bowl and table in the sanctuary. The font is a reminder to me of the importance of Holy Baptism in the life of a Christian. Significant in size and design, it is a major focus for our Lutheran worship.
I am so pleased to have found the website for Functional Art Gallery. You were most helpful in creating a bowl that is so dramatic. I am amazed that it took such a short time from our first contact to having
our bowl in place.”

Client: Alex Cheng Residence
Project: Wall Platters
Artist: Michael Church
Alex Cheng contacted us to fill his walls with art! The room which was filled with windows and their piano was the perfect backdrop for Michael Church’s fantastic wall platters. Working with the client through photos of his home and Michael’s style we drew up a customized and very persise plan of where to place the platters. There was even a special piece made for the corner niche.
Michael created 13 platters in Large, Medium and Small sizes plus a custom piece for the niche for
“Phase 1”, and 5 platters and an additional niche piece for “Phase 2”. As you can see in the examples shown, it is a spectacular piece for this home.
